PROJECTS

PROJECT CLOTHING
When babies die during pregnancy, many parents want to spend time with their babies and to dress them, but many do not have clothes in sizes that will fit them because they can be very small. In the United Kingdom many people donate hand-knitted, crocheted or sewn clothing to hospitals, but in Portugal this prospect does not exist. Sofia’s Wish would like to be able to provide parents with such an opportunity to dress their babies. The simple act of dressing a baby can provide some comfort to the parents and helps in the grieving process.
If you are interested in donating your creations, please send us a message.
We need clothes, blankets between 20 x 20cm and 80 x 80cm, and hats with a diameter between 5cm and 10cm.
If you would like, you can do it in memory of a special baby that died.

PROJECT MEMORY BOX
When thinking about having children, we think that we will have a lifetime to create memories with them, but for parents who lose a baby such memories will be few. Our memory boxes help parents to create memories with their baby while they are in hospital.
Each box costs around £40 (€47) and contain:
-
two little teddy bears,
-
two slightly larger teddy bears (the idea is for parents to keep two and for the others to stay with the baby through to the funeral),
-
a box in which to keep a lock of baby's hair,
-
letter paper and an envelope for parents to write to their baby,
-
a candle,
-
a box to put everything inside.
The clay mould kits - used to create prints of the baby’s hands and feet (which are already included in the cost above) - will not be included in the memory box but donated separately. The reason for this is that not all babies will be able to do such prints.
A special impression paper to make prints of the baby's hands and feet (which can later be used to create necklaces, bracelets and key chains) can be added to the memory box, if the hospital does not supply this already - approx. £10 (€12).
