OUR MISSION
Our mission is to help hospitals to create better opportunities and conditions for parents affected by baby loss during pregnancy and shortly after birth, providing the chance to create memories with their babies before saying their final goodbye. This helps parents to grieve properly, as well as feel less alone.
OUR HISTORY
Sofia’s Wish was created by Sofia’s mother after her heart stopped beating at 27 weeks’ gestation. The support received from the public hospital in the United Kingdom was incredible, from the health professionals who knew the right things to say in such a difficult moment, through to the donations the hospital had received from people who had been through the same experience or simply wanted to help. Sofia’s mother had the good fortune to have a choice of clothes, soft toys, and memory boxes, among many other things. There were also cold cots which enabled her to spend more time with her daughter. All of this helped in making a difficult moment a bit less painful and allowed her to feel like she was Sofia’s mother, even if only for a short while. It was because of this that Sofia’s Wish was founded to help hospitals to create better opportunities and conditions for parents so they have the same chance to create memories with their babies.
Sofia’s Wish is not yet a registered charity, but we are working towards it.
